Sousou no Frieren

The anime series with almost a perfect score of 9.38/10 on MyAnimeList that feels mandatory to watch at this point. At least, try it out to get yourself an opinion about it.

I would give this show a 7/10, like other series this one is very subjective. It hits you very differently depending on how old are you, what experiences have you had in your life, how have you dealt with the death of close ones…

This series is about self-discovery. The main character, which I still don’t fully love is learning how to have empathy for humans. For a long-lived Elf the concept of a human life (length-wise) is insignificant. More so when the “party of heroes” was “only” together for 10 years.

Put yourself in the situation, sharing day and night with a group of friends for 10 years straight. The bonds, and the relationships that you will develop will be very strong. Stronger than blood-related family even. This is why Frieren irritates me so much.

The anime makes you want to play an MMORPG like Guild Wars, which I installed after watching the series 😂 Ended up not playing but it truly made me crave role-playing games.

The soundtrack is also great, spot on, and makes the whole world-building just better.

I want to know more about the other characters

Is it strange that I would love to see a spin-off series about the actual party of heroes? I have more interest in the other characters than the Elf.

How could Himmel fall in love with Frieren is a mystery to me.

Their deaths, even though natural and not tragic or dramatic, were well done and made me sad.

I was not expecting such an ending

I should have known better. The manga is ongoing so there was no way to give us some closure in just 1 anime season.

The season ends without a cliffhanger or knowing how long this journey to heaven will take. Sure, I want to see more, based on the promise that we will see the party of heroes again. I will definetly watch it when it airs.

I guess now that they’ve seen how well this anime has been received they might stretch and squeeze the money of out it. I could be wrong.

What do I want to see in the next season?

I hope it’s not a season full of side-quests, I understand getting side-tracked is part of the journey but we should at least get to see Himmel and Heiter, and not just short flashbacks.

I want to see Fern grow less Frieren-dependent. Would love to see Stark get more protagonism, and of course, see Sein re-join them.

Have you watched it?
