Hell’s Paradise

I expected something different, the animation is great but skyrockets in terms of fantasy…

The beginning is so good. We’re presented with a mysterious character which is a ninja (who doesn’t love ninjas!) who’s condemned to death.

Yet he eludes death and is presented with a choice. Going on a mission and if successful awarded an official pardon, so he can go back to his wife and live happily ever after.

The animation is fantastic, and the fight scenes especially at the beginning are very nice. We’ve got some nice characters and the story is not afraid to kill some of them off. Nice!

My problem is what at first looked like a nice sword fights ends up with a human-shaped being becoming a strange human/flower shooting lasers out of roses. Too much. I would have preferred more hand-to-hand combat, swords, and such. Please do not let it go further than this.

Will I be watching the second season? Sure, it has potential. I just hope it changes a bit and it’s not a power trip as any other shonen, each enemy being stronger and stronger until they’re shooting missiles out of their eyesockets.

The ending

The final scene is very interesting and refreshing, Gabimaru losing his memories and waking up without knowing where he is and who are those around him. I think it will give us some good episodes there. Although I imagine he might recover his memories soon enough. I might be wrong, we’ll see!
